MEXICO CITY, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Bolivia's animated traffic zebras have been internet sensational after a talk show.
Last Sunday John Oliver hosted a talk show featured the zebras on his program "Last Week Tonight." Since then, the zebras have gone viral, helped by the hashtag #JustAddZebras on social media.
The zebras, which are what Latin Americans call the white lines marking the pedestrian crosswalk, were first introduced to the streets of Bolivia's capital La Paz more than a decade ago, as a lighthearted way to raise awareness about the rights of pedestrians.
The zebras' ability to inject humor into a potentially grim situation has now inspired the internet community to insert their image into otherwise bleak events.
Oliver, for example, added a Bolivian zebra to a video clip of U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony, saying it made it "easier to watch."
