BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to work with Peru to push for the success of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, said Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Wednesday.

Li made the remarks when meeting with visiting Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in Beijing.

The 2016 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held in Peru's capital city Lima in November.

Li applauded the remarkable progress in bilateral ties since China and Peru established diplomatic relations 45 years ago.

China is willing to work with Peru to cement political mutual trust and expand pragmatic cooperation, he said.

Li suggested the two sides give full play to the bilateral free trade agreement and various economic cooperation mechanisms to push forward production capacity cooperation in the areas of mining, energy and infrastructure construction.

He also called on the two countries to push forward a railway project linking the Pacific to the Atlantic and jointly promote trade liberalization and investment facilitation.

Kuczynski said the new Peruvian government is willing to learn from China's development experience and welcomes Chinese enterprises to take part in Peru's infrastructure construction.

He said the railway project linking Peru's Pacific port and Brazil's Atlantic coast is of great significance and he hopes the two sides can conduct a feasibility study.

The project, if completed, will make it easier for exports from Latin America to reach China's northern port city of Tianjin.

Kuczynski said Peru is willing to enhance cooperation with China within the APEC framework to jointly promote trade liberalization.

Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang also met with Kuczynski on Wednesday.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said China has attached great importance to relations with Peru.

He said the NPC is ready to further friendly cooperative ties with the Peruvian Congress and enhance exchanges on state governance and legal system construction.

Kuczynski is paying his first visit to China from Monday to Friday.
