TEHRAN, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the Swiss charge d'affaires to Tehran to protest against the remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson against the Islamic republic, Tasnim news agency reported.

The Swiss embassy in Tehran represents the interests of the United States in the Islamic republic.

Iran has submitted a letter of protest to the Swiss envoy, in which it has deplored Tillerson's anti-Iran remarks as "unwise and clear meddling in Iran's internal affairs," the Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying.

Tillerson's remarks were against the principles of international law and commitments of the U.S. administration to the United Nations Charter, said Qasemi.

On Wednesday, Tillerson said that U.S. policy is driven by relying on "elements inside Iran" to bring about "peaceful transition of that government."

Earlier on Sunday, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that the United States blusters about the "regime change" in Iran.

Khamenei said that the recent threats by the U.S. officials to change the Islamic establishment in Iran was not a new policy, and over the past four decades the Americans have never slackened in the attempts to overthrow the Islamic republic.

However, all their efforts against the Islamic republic have ended up in failure, he added.
