BELGRADE, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Although Aleksandar Vucic, incumbent prime minister of Serbia and the candidate of the ruling coalition, remains convincing winner of Sunday's presidential elections according to latest data of the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) published on Friday, final results will have to wait for the re-vote scheduled for April 11 at eight polling stations.

After finishing processing voting materials from 99.9 percent of the total of 8,400 polling stations, the RIK decided at Friday's session to annul voting at 11 polling stations, citing "where it was not possible to determine the will of voters" as reason. It also decided to re-vote at eight polling stations where irregularities were determined.

President of RIK Vladimir Dimitrijevic said Friday in a press release that "the final results of the April 2 elections will come only after the voting is repeated at eight polling stations on April 11 and that all results published before that should be considered as preliminary."

RIK has the legal deadline to come out with results 96 hours after polls close, meaning that the official announcement of the victory of Vucic, who according to the latest preliminary results published by RIK on Friday, won 55.06 percent, or more than 2 million votes at the April 2 elections, will take place from April 11 to April 15.

According to the same data, Vucic was followed by former ombudsman Sasa Jankovic with 16.37 percent of votes, comedian and political activist Luka Maksimovic winning 9.43 percent, and former foreign minister Vuk Jeremic 5.66 percent.

Eleven candidates participated in the presidential race at the elections held on April 2, which will elect the successor of the outgoing president Tomislav Nikolic whose mandate expires by the end of May. RIK estimates that around 54.39 percent or 6.7 million registered voters came out to vote.
