JAKARTA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted the Bali resort Island in central Indonesia earlier Wednesday, but was not potential for a tsunami, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.

The quake jolted at 6:10 a.m. Jakarta time Wednesday (2306 GMT Tuesday) with the epicenter 23 km southeast Denpasar city and a depth of 117 km, said Gatut Daniarsyah of the agency.

"We do not issue a warning for tsunami as the location of the epicenter is very deep," he told Xinhua.

The intensity of the quake was felt at 4 MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Mataram of West Nusa Tenggara, the official added.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-hit zone of "the Pacific Ring of Fire."

Over 200,000 foreign holiday-makers visit Bali Island every month, according to the national statistic bureau.
