DHAKA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's current account balance recorded a deficit of 754 million U.S. dollars in the first seven months of the current 2016-17 fiscal year (July 2016-June 2017), a central bank official said Tuesday.
He said the current account balance showed the deficit of 754 million U.S. dollars in July-January against the surplus of 2.47 billion U.S. dollars during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year (July 2015-June 2016).
Bangladesh registered a current account deficit of 793 million U.S. dollars in the first half of the current 2016-17 fiscal year, said the official who preferred to be unnamed.
According to the official, Bangladesh Bank current account balance and overall balance of payments in the last 2015-16 fiscal year maintained positive trend as export earnings and inflow of remittances continued to grow, though at a moderated pace.
With relatively better positions in internal and external economic activities, Bangladesh current account balance showed the surplus of 3,706 million U.S. dollars at the end of the 2015-16 fiscal year against the surplus of 2,875 million U.S. dollars in the previous fiscal year (July 2014-June 2015).
