PARIS, March 16 (Xinhua) -- French and German leaders on Thursday said Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's comparison of European states' ban on several Turkish rallies in their territories to the Nazi era, was "unacceptable".

French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the diplomatic row between Ankara and some European Union (EU) countries, according to a joint statement released by Hollande's office.

Hollande and Merkel agreed that future events organized by Turkish associations over their country's referendum could take place if "precise conditions are met in strict accordance with German or French laws, in full transparency".

Over a phone conversation, Hollande expressed solidarity with Germany and other European countries that had been called as Nazis or fascists by Turkey, it added.

Tensions between Turkey and EU countries raised after EU members, including the Netherlands and Germany, stopped Turkish politicians from holding rallies on their soil out of fears of tensions among Turkish communities.
