ATHENS, March 13 (Xinhua) -- An international summer school for ancient drama, the Epidaurus Lyceum, is being launched this year at the ancient theater of Epidaurus, it was announced on Monday.
According to Vangelis Theodoropoulos, artistic director of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the 2,500-year-old marble theater in southern Greece with 14,000 seats capacity, will welcome for first time students from drama schools and young actors from across the world.
The goal is to explore traditional and experimental techniques regarding the staging of ancient drama. Classes will allow up to 150 students this summer to practice at the ancient theater in July during the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, which is the largest annual cultural event in Greece since 1955.
This year's chosen underlying theme is "The arrival of the Outsider" in a reference to the dilemmas Europe faces today amidst the refugee crisis, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival said.
The deadline for applications for participation in the Epidaurus Lyceum was set for April 15, according to the announcement.
