ACCRA, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Ghana moved nine places up to rank 45th on the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday.

The Black Stars, who placed fourth at the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), moved from the 54th position to 45th after gaining 65 more points to increase its total points tally to 675 from January's 610 points.

On the African table, Ghana climbed one place to rank eighth from last month's ninth.

Africa champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, jumped to the 33rd position in the world ranking and third on the continent after rising 29 places.

Argentina continued to lead the global rankings followed by Brazil and Germany in that order.

According to FIFA, the most significant changes for the February edition of the FIFA world rankings arrive courtesy of matches played at the 2017 Africa cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon.

In all, 60 matches counted towards the latest rankings.

These included the 2017 AFCON (32 games), the 2017 Copa Centroamericana (15 games) and international friendlies (13 games).

The next edition of the rankings will be released on March 9. Enditem
