Swedish hospitals suffer overcrowding problems

STOCKHOLM, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The problem of overcrowding at Swedish hospitals has grown over the past two years, according to a survey published Wednesday by the Swedish medical publication Dagens Medicin.

Dagens Medicin studied 61 hospitals with 24-hour A&E departments.

The findings show that staff shortages is the primary reason behind the overcrowding and that emergency wards often fall short on treating patients seeking care.

Patients are often placed in the wrong hospital wards or even in corridors, while others get sent off to different hospitals when the one they have sought care at is too full.

Medical unions are demanding measures to create more spaces for patients. Enditem
