AMMAN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Jordan has amended its anti-terror law to increase efforts to combat terrorism and target those who seek to undermine the country's stability, the state-run Petra news agency reported on Monday.
"Jordan is in the middle of a turbulent region, which necessitates several measures to prevent any harm," Minister of Interior Salameh Hammad was quoted as saying.
"The law was amended to give the security forces more powers and jurisdictions to firmly and immediately deal with terrorist groups such as the Islamic State," he said.
According to the minster, the amendments will help ensure better coordination between all players to thwart any possible threats.
The move came weeks after a shooting attack in the Karak Castle in southern Jordan, which killed three policemen, six Jordanian civilians and a Canadian tourist.
