MADRID, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona coach Luis Enrique admitted that the Spanish league title is not in their hands following his side's 1-1 draw away to Villarreal on Sunday night.

The draw leave Barca five points behind league leaders Real Madrid and if Madrid win their game in hand away to Valencia, that gap would stretch to eight points, which is a big lead to make up on a Madrid side that is unbeaten in their last 39 matches.

"The league doesn't depend on us," admitted Enrique, who nevertheless refused to throw in the towel.

"I am sure we will have the opportunity to battle for it, but it is in Real Madrid's hands. We have to keep on doing as we are doing, but we have to win our matches," he insisted.

The Barca coach thought his side had been unlucky to drop points in a game he insisted his side had enjoyed, "a lot of the ball."

However, he added that Barca were "in a dynamic where we creating a lot of chances but not taking them... We have things to improve, that's quite clear but we are confident that we will continue to do so."

Finally the Barca coach waved away rumors that Croatian midfielder, Ivan Rakitic, who was left out of the squad for the game, was on his way out of the club to sign for Manchester City.

"You can't believe all you read in the papers," he said. Enditem
