The Russian Northern Fleet will get two polar stations in the Arctic region

ST. PETERSBURG, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Northern Fleet of Russia will get two polar stations in the Arctic region by the end of this year, the fleet commander Vice-Admiral Nikolay Evmenov said on Thursday.

TASS reported that the stations had been built on Kotelny Island and Alexandra Land, which are a part of the Franz Josef Archipelago. Evmenov noted that the Northern Fleet has successfully accomplished the task of developing the infrastructure in the Arctic region in 2016.

Russia plans to complete the building of the Arctic Joint Strategic Command by 2018.
