VALLETTA, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Malta had secured 35 million euros (36 million U.S. dollars) of European Union funds to improve traffic accessibility and efficiency, the government confirmed on Friday.
The projected value of the Kappara Junction projects is estimated at 35 million euros, of which 33 million will be derived from the EU Funding.
This funding has been secured under the cohesion fund to be invested in the Kappara Junction project. This project aims to address one of the most traffic congested areas in Malta, with traffic volume amounting to 90,000 vehicles a day.
Malta's parliamentary secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU funds Lan Borg said: "The existing junction is no longer suitable to accommodate all this volume and for this purpose, an investment in road infrastructure is considered an important factor.
