ISLAMABAD, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Sunday strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Turkey which killed and injured dozens of people.
Two explosions hit central Istanbul on Saturday night, killing 27 police officers and two civilians and injuring 166 others, Turkish government officials said.
"It is with deep sorrow and grief that we have learnt about the terrorist explosions in the Besiktas district of Istanbul in which reportedly precious lives of 27 policemen and two civilians have been lost and 166 are wounded," the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"Pakistan condemns this heinous act of terrorism in the strongest possible terms," the statement said.
Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said at a press conference in Istanbul that a moving car was detonated targeting riot police on duty near a stadium where a football match ended about one and half an hour before.
The statement said the government and people of Pakistan express complete solidarity with Turkey in its fight against terrorism and reaffirm the belief that those seeking to disturb Turkey's peace, stability and internal harmony would never succeed.
"We have no doubt that the brotherly people of Turkey would decisively defeat the scourge of terrorism with their unshakable resolve and continue on the path of peace, security and prosperity," a foreign ministry spokesman said.
