GAZA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- A rare case of dicephalic parapagus twins were born on Wednesday in Gaza.
Ayman Al-Sahbani, the head of Emergency Section at Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza city, told Xinhua that the twins have two heads and two necks, but share a torso and the rest of their body.
Al-Sahbani added that tests showed that the twins have two hearts in one chest, one abdomen and share the same arms and legs.
He pointed out that the twins are still in critical condition. Once they are stabilized, they might be transferred abroad to get better treatment.
According to Al-Sahbani, the case is very rare in the Palestine and the world. He highlighted the importance of establishing a specialized center to deal with such cases.
Conjoined twins are a similar case whose bodies are conjoined in the womb. The probability of occurrence is one in 100,000 births. Approximately half are stillborn and additional one-third die within 24 hours.
