SUVA, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Fiji has received a "timely donation" from China to procure equipment to be used in the Pacific island country's Age Care Homes, the Fijian government said on Thursday.
The cheque donation of 40,000 Fiji dollars (19,140 U.S. dollars) has been handed over by Chinese Ambassador Zhang Ping to Mereseini Vuniwaqa, Fiji's minister for women, children and poverty alleviation.
"Minister Vuniwaqa acknowledged the assistance provided by the Chinese government and reassured Ambassador Zhang Ping that the ministry will continue to work closely with the embassy in its future endeavors," Fiji's Department of Information said.
"This donation is a continuation of the Chinese government's support to the work of the ministry which in the past has seen the supply of sewing machines and fabrics for various women's groups," said the department.
Aside from the cheque donation, the Chinese embassy has also donated two computers that are expected to be utilized by the Mahaffy Girls Home, which takes care of underprivileged girls in Fiji.
