VIENTIANE, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- A Cambodian high-ranking delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong has visited the Don Sahong hydropower project in Laos' southern Champassak province to observe progress of the project, especially fish passage improvements.
The tour was made during an ongoing visit of Hor Namhong and his delegation to Laos from last Friday to Tuesday at the invitation of the Lao government.
The trip aimed to get accurate information concerning the project's measures to mitigate environmental impacts, especially on fish, said Daovong Phonekeo, office permanent secretary of the Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines, reported local Vientiane Times on Monday.
Following the trip, Hor Namhong and his delegation were briefed on technical aspects of the project.
Daovong said many groups of people had expressed concern about the project, some 600 km southeast of Lao capital Vientiane, as they thought such a dam on the Mekong River would impact the passage of fish and reduce fish population. The Lao government has invited all interested groups to visit the site, so they can receive accurate information and understand more about the project. Enditem
