Tokyo stocks open higher as hopes for Fed rate hike sends yen lower

TOKYO, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as investor sentiment was bolstered by the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar on hopes for a rate hike from the U.S. Federal Reserve in December.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 116.31 points, or 0.67 percent, from Thursday to 17,452.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 8.04 points, or 0.58 percent, to 1,390.05.

Notable issues that gained traction in early trade comprised securities, insurance and banking-linked stocks.
