HONG KONG, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted New Ireland region, Papua New Guinea at 03:21:26 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 21.86 km, was initially determined to be at 5.3711 degrees south latitude and 153.4718 degrees east longitude.
