JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed slightly higher on Monday, with gains in resources and other shares.
The all share index was up 0.03 percent to 51,675.51 points at close of session, offsetting losses in gold mining, financial and industrial shares.
Resource shares were mixed, with diversified miner Exxaro hitting the R100 a share mark for the first time in many months, up 6.98 percent to R105.00 as commodity prices recovered from last week's lows.
Gold had risen 0.27 percent to sell at 1259.80 U.S. dollars an ounce, silver was up 0.82 percent to 17.66 dollars an ounce, and platinum had gained 0.39 percent to sell at 968.34 dollars an ounce.
The rand was weaker against the major currencies, trading at R13.77 to the U.S. dollar, R17.01 to the British pound and R15.36 to the euro. Enditem
