TOKYO, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday on increased speculation that the U.S. Federal Reserve will hike its rates this year following the release of strong economic data that saw U.S. shares rally overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 142.57 points, or 0.85 percent, from Wednesday to 16,961.81.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.54 points, or 0.78 percent, to 1,358.35.
Notable early gainers on the main section comprised insurance, mining and securities-linked stocks. Enditem
