ISLAMABAD, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Pakistan early Wednesday for talks on bilateral and regional matters that will focus on ways to enhance economic cooperation, officials said.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif received Lukashenko on his arrival in Islamabad.

This is the third leadership level visit from Belarus and second by Lukashenko in 16 months.

Apart from official talks with the prime minister, the Belarusian president will hold meeting with president of Pakistan. A number of important agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

Sharif and Lukashenko will inaugurate the Fourth Pakistan-Belarus Business and Investment Forum later on Wednesday.

A 23-member strong business delegation from Belarus is already in Pakistan to explore mutual beneficial business opportunities through business-to-business deals with Pakistani counterparts.

"Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Belarus have progressed at a rapid pace over the last two years. This visit is reflective of these growing ties and will provide impetus to further expanding bilateral relations in a range of areas including political, economic, trade, investment and other areas of mutual interest," the Foreign Ministry said.
