St. Petersburg, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- An association of Russian students educated in China was formed in St. Petersburg on Friday.

The announcement was made at a celebration event for the National Day of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in St. Petersburg sponsored by the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society.

Chinese Consul General in St. Petersburg Guo Min said decades ago some St. Petersburg residents joined the first batch of Russians to study in China, and today they are still dedicated to strengthening the bilateral amity.

With China-Russia ties continuing to grow, more and more Russians are going to China for academic advancement, he said, hoping the newly-created association to help promote bilateral friendship.

Chairman of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society Alexander Storozhuk said that all St. Petersburg residents who once studied in China share the same positive experience that can be used to enhance Russia-China ties.

To mark the event, local science journal "History of St. Petersburg" published a special issue about memories of local residents who studied in China.
