S. African stocks close higher on Friday

JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed higher on Friday, buoyed by resources and industrial stocks.

The resources and industrial stocks propelled the all-share index 0.18 percent higher to 53,347.30 points, with the top 40 index nudging up 0.31 percent.

South Africa's rand tumbled against the dollar on Friday, pulled down in part by fears over an ongoing investigation into Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, which has impacted negatively on the global investors.

The South Africa rand was trading at R14.37 to the U.S. dollar, R19.01 to the British pound and R16.16 to the euro at close of session. Enditem
