SYDNEY, Aug 25. (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar has again lifted above the 76 U.S. cents mark.

At the Asian open on Thursday, the local unit was trading at 76.15 cents, up from 76.12 cents on Wednesday.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia senior currency strategist Elias Haddad said though it was a relatively a quiet night in the markets, the local unit still managed to consolidate near the 76.10 U.S. cents mark.

"But the main event this week, for the greenback and markets generally, is Fed Chair Janet Yellen's speech at Jackson Hole," Haddad said.

Haddad said he expects the Aussie dollar overall performance to be driven by a trend in the greenback and iron ore prices.

At 0924 local time (AEST) the Australian dollar was trading at 76.13 U.S. cents.
