TOKYO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed higher Friday with the Nikkei index ended at a roughly two-and-a-half-month high, as U.S. shares closed at record highs overnight supported by firm oil prices and the yen's depreciation underpinned market sentiment.

Japanese stock markets were closed Thursday due to a national holiday.
