Rescued Chinese workers in stable condition after abduction in Nigeria: police

ABUJA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese workers who were rescued last weekend after being kidnapped by unknown gunmen in central Nigeria's Nasarawa State are in stable condition, local police said Tuesday.

Nasarawa State police spokesman Ismaila Numan told Xinhua the two Chinese, aged 50 and 45 respectively, were confirmed to be in sound condition after a medical checkup at a local hospital in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

They were ambushed by their abductors last Friday on their way to Abuja but freed "as a result of the extensive and sustained pressure from the search party," the police spokesman said.

Investigation was still on to arrest the kidnappers, he added. Enditem
