SYDNEY, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Almost 200 dead starfish have been washed off the coast of a Western Australian beach on Wednesday after an initial report indicated there could be up to 1,000.
The Australian Associated Press reported that samples of the dead starfish have been taken off a Perth beach and sent over to the fisheries department for further testing to determine what caused them to die.
No other dead aquatic animals have been seen or reported in the area, the fisheries department said in a statement.
People have also been advised not to collect, handle, move or consume the dead fish for fear of being contaminated.
