LUSAKA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The Zambia U-17 national soccer team began the defense of their regional title with a 4-0 win over Kenya.

The junior Chipolopolo began the defense of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Junior Championship with a convincing win over Kenya who are guest participants at the tournament being hosted by Mauritius.

Kenya were co-opted into the tournament after Mozambique pulled out of the competition.

Zambia scored four time in the first half of the game played on Friday at Stade Saint Francois Xavier Stadium, according to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

Zambia are topping Group B with three points ahead of the match between Malawi and Madagascar.

Zambia coach Oswald Mutapa said he will use the tournament to prepare his players for the 2017 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations to be hosted by Madagascar next April.
