KHARTOUM, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's monthly inflation rate jumped to 14.3 percent in June compared to around 14 percent in May, said a report by Sudan's Central Bureau of Statistics Tuesday.

"The general index of the prices of consumer goods and service has increased with various rates during the past month in 13 states," the report said.

The Sudanese economy has been suffering from difficulties as a result of the secession of South Sudan, which caused the country to lose three quarters of its oil wealth.

Following the separation of the South, the deficit in Sudan's budget amounted to 1.6 billion U.S. dollars, which caused the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to urge Sudan to adopt emergency procedures to face the challenges.

The Sudanese pound has been recording unprecedented decline against foreign currencies, with the exchange price of a U.S. dollar amounting to around 13.9 Sudanese pounds on the parallel market compared to the official price of 6.6 pounds. Enditem
