UNITED NATIONS, July 1 (Xinhua) -- All countries must strengthen cooperation on border control and enforcement to effectively stop foreign terrorist fighters from moving across borders, said a Chinese envoy here on Friday.
Wu Haitao, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, made the remarks at a UN General Assembly meeting on global counter-terrorism strategy.
Wu said the international community must also enhance cooperation in cracking down on terrorist financing through illegal trafficking of petroleum, cultural relics and narcotics.
In addition, he called for strengthened cyber space regulations to combat and stop terrorist organizations from using the Internet to spread extremist ideas, recruit personnel and plan terrorist activities.
In December, China promulgated its Counter-terrorism Law, noted Wu. "China will continue to prevent and combat terrorism in accordance with law and maintain our national security as well as the safety and security of our people and their assets."
"China will continue to actively participate in and promote multi-lateral and bilateral counter terrorism cooperation," he added.
On Friday at the meeting, the 193-member General Assembly adopted a resolution on UN global counter-terrorism strategy, urging member states to ensure no tolerance for terrorism.
The resolution encourages member states to consider better ways to exchange information, assist each other, and prosecute those who use information and communications technologies for terrorist purposes.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the adoption of this resolution symbolizes the strong resolve of the international community to "act in unison and without delay to address terrorism and violent extremism."
In this regard, Ban encouraged member states to adopt national and regional plans of action to implement the global counter terrorism strategy in a balanced and comprehensive manner to step up counter-terrorism efforts.
