WINDHOEK, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Namibian President Hage Geingob has told the visiting Indian President Pranab Mukherjee that Namibia would look into legal ways of supplying uranium to India.

Geingob said his government was ready to supply uranium to India provided that the nuclear products would not have anything to do with war.

Mukherjee, who was on a three-day visit to the southern African country spoke about India's wish to import uranium.

Mukherjee said there was need to add value to Namibia's economy by using efficient methods to extract minerals.

Such methods, he said, would contribute to the sustainable development of Namibia's mining sector.

According to Geingob, the Namibian government would "look into legal ways" of how India can use uranium from Namibia since India is not a signatory to the non-proliferation of nuclear treaty.

Namibia is the fourth largest uranium producer in the world.

Mukherjee's state visit to Namibia ends on Friday. Enditem
