QUITO, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Ecuadorian authorities announced Thursday they had dismantled an international drug trafficking ring in the coast city of Guayaquil.
Writing on Twitter, Diego Fuentes, deputy minister of internal security, said it was "a dangerous structure involving financing and organization of drug trafficking, with links to Europe."
The operation happened on Thursday morning, with 23 searches being carried out, resulting in the arrests of 19 suspects and the seizure of 17 vehicles.
Ecuador's Attorney General Galo Chiriboga also wrote on Twitter that investigations had revealed the identity and links between the 19 suspects and that more information would be provided as it becomes available.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, Ecuadorian police had seized and destroyed over 30 tonnes of drugs from January to May. Enditem
