UAE gov't passes national tolerance program

DUBAI, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Cabinet approved on Wednesday a national program to highlight the value of tolerance, UAE state news agency WAM reported.

The program was presented by Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al-Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance, before the cabinet, chaired by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

It aims to stress the tolerance in the UAE society, which came on the occasion of the Islamic spiritual month of Ramadan which started on Monday.

The program is based on seven main pillars, namely Islam, UAE constitution, legacy of the UAE's first President Sheikh Zayed's and ethics of the UAE, international conventions, archeology and history, humanity and common values.

Sheikha Lubna emphasized that through these values, "the UAE society will continue to build up tolerance, multiculturalism, culture of acceptance of others, and reject attitudes of discrimination and hatred."

The UAE, a major oil supplier, has 10.5 million inhabitants, of which over 80 percent are foreigners from over 200 nations. Enditem
