RABAT, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) called Tuesday on the international community to take urgent actions to save the Syrian city of Aleppo from "deliberate and mass destruction."
ISESCO deemed in a statement what happens in Aleppo as "a humanitarian, environmental and architectural disaster" that is unprecedented in the world's contemporary history, even during two world wars.
It also called on countries worldwide, human rights organizations, religious and cultural institutions, as well as intellectual and media elites to condemn the parties involved in the destruction, and to join the efforts to end the war that targets this historic city.
Aleppo was selected in 2006 as capital of Islamic culture for the diversity of its historical monuments, as well as its rich and diverse cultural and scientific heritage, the statement noted. Enditem
