BANGKOK, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The Bank of Thailand will issue a 70-Baht commemorative banknote to celebrate the 70th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne on Thursday, authorities said Tuesday.

The banknote can rarely be seen in circulation, as it's vertical and with full-body portraits of the king on both sides of the note.

The size of the banknote is 89mm*162mm, which, according to Woraporn Tangsaghasaksri, assistant governor of Banknote Management Group of Bank of Thailand, has special meanings.

The number 89 is the king's age and 1 plus 6 plus 2 equals 9, which refers to the king also known as Rama IX, he said.

The note also uses fluorescent ink, allowing people to see radial pattern behind the portrait on both sides that will glow yellow under ultraviolet light.

The Thai king took the throne on June 9, 1946, when he was only 19. He is now the world's longest-serving monarch, one year longer than Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

The total issuance of the commemorative banknotes will be 20 million. Enditem
