THAILAND-BANGKOK-SANGKHALOK CEREMIC WARES

Photo taken on Nov. 18, 2016 shows three Sangkhalok-style underglaze jars displayed at the Southeast Asian Ceramics Museum in Bangkok University, Bangkok, Thailand. The Sangkhalok porcelains were created by ancient Thai potters around Si Satchanalai of Sukhothai Province, in the northern region of Thailand, following a trade boom in ceramics initiated by Chinese merchants. The making of Sangkhalok porcelains culminated between the 13th and 16th centuries as local potters accustomed Chinese and Vietnamese ceramic techniques to the cultural elements of some Thailand's ancient kingdoms.
