YEREVAN, Nov. 14 ( Xinhua) -- The government of Armenia and the United Nations on Tuesday announced the official launch of the National Innovation Center (NIC) for implementing sustainable development goals, said the Armenian government in a statement.

"This was a very crucial choice for Armenia since the implementation of sustainable development goals is very important for our country as part of key reforms," Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said at the launch event.

The main task of the NIC will be "to engage in all current innovation technologies and experience in the world to come up with asymmetric solutions for problems," according to the prime minister.

Karapetyan also said that the National Innovation Center was the first such joint effort by the UN and one of its member states, Armenia is aimed at establishing an innovation platform on national level.

The Armenian Prime Minister expressed appreciation of the UN office's work in Armenia.

The center will be cooperating with organizations including Stanford Change Labs, UN Global Pulse, the Behavioral Insights Team and Armenian General Benevolent Union.
