Vietnam to bring home remains of sailors killed in Philippines

HANOI, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has completed procedures to bring home remains of two sailors killed by Abu Sayyaf militants in the Philippines, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.

The two victims are Hoang Trung Thong and Hoang Van Hai, sailors of Vietnamese cargo ship Royal 16 which was kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf in November 2016.

Vietnam is also working with the Philippines to bring back the body of another Vietnamese crewman of Vietnamese cargo ship Giang Hai who was killed during a recent gun battle between the militants and Filipino troops, the ministry's spokesperson said at a regular press briefing on Thursday.

On July 13, the troops found the body of the victim, Tran Viet Van, who was taken hostage by Abu Sayyaf in February.
