CHENGDU, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Zitong in southwest China's Sichuan Province, known in China as the "city of nuclear bombs," opened an institute Thursday offering courses on patriotism.

Zitong was home to the research headquarters of China's nuclear weapons program, where a dozen of world-class scientists worked for over a decade on China's first atomic and hydrogen bombs and satellite launches in the 1960s and 1970s.

This year is the 50th anniversary of China's first successful hydrogen bomb test.

The academy will invite those who participated in or witnessed the nuclear research and professors of Party history to give various kinds of lessons, according to Peng Yuxing, Party chief of the academy.

Peng expects about 200,000 visitors to the institute each year, ranging from Party cadres to primary school children.
