PARIS, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The French president is seeking to prolong emergency security rules for three months more as part of the government's plan to tackle terrorism forces operating on French soil, the presidency said Wednesday.
After heading a defense council, President Emmanuel Macron said the government was going to ask the parliament for a further extension of the state of emergency, which would termite by the end of July under current legislation.
As France remains a top target of terrorist attacks, the French president urged "measures to strengthen security to cope with the terrorist threat out of a state of emergency so that a legislative text could be prepared in the coming weeks."
Macron decided to create a coordination center for services engaged in the fight against terrorism at a defense council on June 7.
Former President Francois Hollande imposed the state of emergency in November 2015 following a series of coordinated terror attack in Paris.
The state of emergency has so far been extended five times. Under emergency rules, police officers and security personnel can make house arrest and conduct searches without judicial warrants.
