BERLIN, May 19 (Xinhua) -- A victim of the Berlin Christmas market terrorism attack in December 2016 has filed a claim for 100 million euros (112 million U.S. dollars) in compensation from the Berlin Police Department (LKA) for their deliberate attempt to manipulate information, German newspaper Bild reported Friday.
Andreas Schulz, the lawyer filing the claim on behalf of the victim, told Focus magazine on Friday "this is a clear-cut case of public liability."
He went on to tell Focus, "if Amri had been arrested in November, the subsequent horrific attack would never have occurred."
The news comes as German media on Thursday reported on a LKA cover-up scandal concerning the terrorist Anis Amri, who killed 12 people at a Christmas market in Berlin last year.
Amri was allegedly known to the LKA as a drug trafficker months before the terrorist attack took place. The police subsequently failed to apprehend the known criminal and covered up the knowledge by amending core documents to the Amri drug trafficking case.
Interior Minister Thomas De Maiziere told the Bild on Friday, "I am waiting for a prompt and comprehensive explanation from the state, which of course will also cover those who are responsible."
