NEW DELHI, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Around 50 people fell into a river and were rescued in the western Indian state of Goa in a footbridge collapse incident on Thursday, police said.
The footbridge over Sanvordem river at Curchorem village in South Goa district collapsed on Thursday evening. So far there were no reports of any casualty in the incident.
"This evening a footbridge caved in here during which a crowd of around 50 fell into the river," a police official said. "Some people managed to swim toward river bank by their own, while others were rescued."
Locals said the footbridge was in dilapidated condition.
Last month, 13 people were killed and eight others went missing after a jetty over Hooghly river collapsed in West Bengal.
