TOKYO, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks dropped Thursday morning as the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar following remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump about the strength of the dollar impacted exporter issues and weighed on the broader market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 212.17 points, or 1.14 percent, from Wednesday to 18,340.44.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 16.94 points, or 1.14 percent, to 1,462.60.

Issues that notably lost ground by the morning break comprised iron and steel, mining and nonferrous metal-linked stocks.
