DHAKA, March 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and several others injured as a cement-laden truck veered off a road in the Mymensingh district, 122 km north of capital Dhaka, on early Friday, a local police official said.
The accident left 10 people dead on the spot and three to four others injured, Mamun Rashid said, adding that the truck went off the road and ended up in a ditch.
The official said the accident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. (local time) and that victims are mostly day laborers. The cause for the accident is not immediately available, he noted.
Bangladesh has high fatality rates for road accidents due mainly to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles and violation of traffic rules by drivers.
