UN Security Council mourns victims of London terror attack

UNITED NATIONS, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Thursday observed a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of victims of a terror attack in London.

"At the opening of this meeting and on behalf of the members of the Security Council, I would like to condemn strongly the cowardly terrorist attack," said visiting British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who made a short statement at the meeting.

On Wednesday, four people were killed and 40 others were injured in the terror attack near London's Parliament building.

The attack started when a car was driven over Westminster Bridge, hitting and injuring a number of people and three police officers.

"I would also like to express my sincere condolences to the families of the victims," Johnson said.

"I now invite members of the Security Council to rise to observe a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of victims of yesterday's attack and all other victims of terrorism arcoss the world," he said.

The London attack took place as Europe marked the first anniversary of two terrorist attacks in Belgium which left 32 dead (excluding three terrorists) and 320 others wounded.
