HO CHI MINH CITY, March 22 (Xinhua) -- H5N1 virus has hit Vietnam's southern Can Tho city, raising the number of bird flu-hit localities in the country to six.
The H5N1 outbreak was detected at a household farm in O Mon District, the Can Tho Bureau of Animal Health said on Wednesday, noting that the disease left nearly 400 ducks dead or sick.
Relevant provincial agencies have culled all of the affected ducks, sprayed chemicals on the farm and surrounding areas, vaccinated other poultry, monitored transport and trade of fowls in Can Tho, and prevented and fought against poultry smuggling.
Vietnam has so far this year spotted H5N1 outbreaks in northern Cao Bang province, northern Bac Ninh province, central Ha Tinh province, southern Tay Ninh province, and H5N6 outbreaks in Cao Bang and central Quang Tri province. Enditem
