YANGON, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar government will privatize some state-owned enterprises and workshops within three to six months, official media reported Wednesday.

Consideration is underway to decide whether these suspended enterprises or factories are privatized to local or foreign businessmen or totally shut down, said U Kyaw Win, Minister for Planning and Finance.

The minister highlighted the role of private sector in economic development, adding the government's role is just as a navigator.

The National League for Democracy Party (NLD)-led government pledged to reform and privatize the state-owned enterprises under its 12-point economic policy which was introduced in July last year.

Many state-owned enterprises had been privatized under the former government.
