TOKYO, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened sharply lower Wednesday on weak U.S. stocks overnight as well as the stronger yen.
As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 332.52 points, or 1.71 percent, from Tuesday to 19,123.36.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 25.52 points, or 1.63 percent, to 1,537.90.
Decliners were led by insurance, bank and securities issues.
